California Gurls

My California girls (gurls) are undeniable. The first sign of summer revealed themselves with Elena's new bikini. Michael enjoyed the suit too and though Mommy doesn't look forward to the heat, these kids certainly do. In all seriousness though, Elena enjoys the new suit and I'm sure Michael will be ready for the sprinklers by the time the Sacramento swelter begins.

Our La is more than half way through the Junior Kindergarten year and is registered in a.m Kindergarten for the fall (beginning at an ugly 7:40 a.m.). She can write all her letters, numbers and can count to 100. She is even beginning to sound some out and loves to 'read' to herself. We got her the "Ramona" series and have been reading her the first of them lately. She loves the big girl story and is always asking questions about Beezus, the big sister in the book.

Michael is learning something every day and loves to call for people. "Mama....Awww youuuuu? or "Aci.....Awww youuuuu?" (Mommy or paci..where are you?). He remains another great joy and might be the cuddliest child alive. Our little loves are downright goofballs in general and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Buh-bye holidays, hello new year.

Another holiday season has come and gone and we're all settling into normalcy again. Elena enjoyed taping the cards to the door and putting out the cookies and carrots. Michael enjoyed eating the cookies and learning a bazillion new words. He may still be the most loving little guy ever born and has become a fantastic 'kisser,' puckering up for a kiss from his family at bedtime, nap time, play time and really any old time (sigh, love).

Unfortunately, I got very sick on Christmas and have remained a tad queasy for weeks now (and no, I'm not pregnant)...It's weird, but it was by far the worst on Christmas and I missed most of that special day. One for the books, I guess. Despite all that, I think the kids enjoyed their holiday very much with entirely too many gifts and goodies for two little people. We rang in the new year with a drive-in movie, skipped the neighbor's party and were in bed by 10. Real party animals, us Grohs peeps. But ready or not, here we come, 2011.
